Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1864 (LINC01864) is a non-coding RNA gene located in intergenic genomic regions and transcribed into long RNA molecules (>200 nucleotides) that do not code for proteins. LINC01864, like other lincRNAs, is thought to play roles in regulating expression of neighboring genes, remodeling chromatin, stabilizing RNA, and regulating transcription in a tissue-specific manner. Though the specific biological function of LINC01864 remains uncharacterized, recent studies have used it as part of a lncRNA panel for distinguishing cancer from normal tissue, indicating potential roles in disease as a biomarker.
