Overview

LINC01876 is a long intergenic non-protein coding RNA (lncRNA) on chromosome 2, hosting the ultraconserved region uc.83, which is a 1143-base non-coding RNA transcribed independently from the rest of the locus. The ultraconserved region, uc.83, is 296 nucleotides long and demonstrates remarkable sequence preservation across humans, rats, and mice. Functional studies show that overexpression of uc.83 increases cell growth and proliferation in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells, at least partly through the activation of AKT and ERK signaling pathways. Conversely, silencing uc.83 reduces tumor cell proliferation. The evidence suggests uc.83 is significantly upregulated in lung cancer tissue compared to adjacent normal tissue, pointing to a role as an RNA-based oncogenic regulator. While no therapeutic drugs currently target LINC01876 or uc.83, the element is being evaluated as a candidate for RNA-based anti-cancer strategies and as a prognostic biomarker for NSCLC. LINC01876 itself is not a classical protein target, but its ultraconserved element, uc.83, may act as a "non-coding RNA regulator" in cancer biology. There is no established list of interacting drugs, safety concerns, or mechanistic drug data, as all interventions described to date are experimental RNA interference technologies. Its biology is distinct from protein families: it is classified within long non-coding RNAs and ultraconserved elements, which differ from historically druggable targets like receptors or enzymes.
