Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1882 (LINC01882) is a lincRNA gene that encodes a non-coding RNA transcript exceeding 200 nucleotides, located in intergenic regions of the human genome. LINC01882 is expressed predominantly in T cells and has been shown to play a role in the regulation of T cell activation, particularly in the context of rheumatoid arthritis, where its expression is downregulated in activated CD4+ T cells. Knockdown experiments in Jurkat T cells indicate that LINC01882 suppresses genes related to interleukin-2 signaling, such as ZEB1 and MAP2K4, implicating it in fine-tuning immune responses. As a member of the long non-coding RNA class, LINC01882 does not encode a protein but may regulate gene expression and cell function through chromatin remodeling, transcription regulation, and enhancer-like activities. Currently, no drugs are known to interact with LINC01882 directly, and it is not a classical therapeutic target. If further molecular functions, mechanisms, or disease associations become available in future studies, these could update its role in biomedical research.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable, as there are no drugs targeting LINC01882. Mechanisms described are those of endogenous function (see below).

03

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expressionRegulation of T cell activationImmune response modulationMay influence cell cycle and apoptosis (by analogy to other lincRNAs)
04

Disease associations

Autoimmune diseases (notably rheumatoid arthritis)Potentially other immune-related disorders (function in T cells could implicate broader immune diseases, but currently best studied in RA)
05

Safety considerations

Not applicable for therapeutic targeting; safety concerns are not described, as it is not currently a drug target.
06

Biomarkers

Down-regulated expression in T cells from patients with active rheumatoid arthritis
