Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1899 (LINC01899) is a member of the family of long intergenic non-coding RNAs (lincRNAs), which are transcripts greater than 200 nucleotides in length and do not overlap with protein-coding regions[5][1][9]. LINC01899, identified in the human genome, is currently characterized by its transcript properties, but there is little direct functional or disease role annotation for this specific locus. LincRNAs in general have emerging but often poorly defined regulatory roles, including control of gene expression, potential function as molecular sponges for microRNAs, and involvement in processes such as chromatin modification or gene silencing[5][7][3]. While many lincRNAs have been implicated in cancer and other diseases in principle, there is no clear evidence from current databases or published studies that LINC01899 is itself a validated therapeutic target, a disease biomarker, or has actionable pharmacological interactions. Therefore, LINC01899 is primarily of research interest as a non-coding RNA gene with potential, but as yet unconfirmed, biological or clinical significance[1][7][9].
