Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1936 (LINC01936) is a long non-coding RNA located at chromosome 2p23.1, primarily expressed in the lung, heart, and thyroid[1][2][5]. It is significantly downregulated in lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) and lung adenocarcinoma, where it functions as a tumor suppressor. Overexpression of LINC01936 reduces proliferation, migration, and invasion of LUSC cells while promoting apoptosis. Mechanistically, LINC01936 is involved in deactivation of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), regulation of immune cell infiltration, inhibition of angiogenesis, and modulation of cell adhesion and extracellular matrix-interactions. Its lower expression correlates with worse prognosis in lung cancer, making it a potential prognostic biomarker and a putative therapeutic target for lung cancers. Currently, there are no known drugs or direct targeting modalities for LINC01936, and its therapeutic application remains investigational[1][2][3][5].
