Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 200 (LINC00200) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), a class of RNA molecules that exceed 200 nucleotides and lack significant protein-coding potential. LINC00200 is specifically classified as a long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA), meaning it is transcribed from regions of the genome between protein-coding genes. LINC00200 has been found to be upregulated in various cancers, including gastric cancer, neuroblastoma, renal cancer, and hepatocellular carcinoma, and acts as an oncogene by promoting cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Mechanistically, LINC00200 is known to act as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), sequestering specific microRNAs (e.g., miR-143-3p) and thereby modulating the expression of downstream genes such as SERPINE1 in gastric cancer or interacting with IGF2BP3 and ZIC2 in neuroblastoma. Its upregulation is associated with poor prognosis in several cancer types, and it is regarded as a potential biomarker for disease progression and patient outcome, but it is not currently considered a direct therapeutic target and no drugs are known to interact directly with it.
