Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 2008 (LINC02008)

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 2008 (LINC02008) is an autonomously transcribed non-coding RNA gene longer than 200 nucleotides that does not overlap with protein-coding genes. Like other lincRNAs, LINC02008 is thought to act primarily in the regulation of gene expression at the chromatin and transcriptional level, potentially by remodeling chromatin, scaffolding protein complexes, and fine-tuning the expression of neighboring or distant genes, often with tissue or cell-type specificity. A small subset of lincRNAs may encode functional micropeptides, but this has not been specifically shown for LINC02008. No evidence currently links LINC02008 to specific diseases or identifies it as a therapeutic target. LINC02008 is catalogued in human gene databases such as GeneCards and BioGPS, indicating its confirmed non-coding nature and absence of protein product.
