Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 2086 (LINC02086)

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 2086 (LINC02086) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene that does not code for a protein but plays regulatory roles at the RNA level[1][2][4]. LINC02086 has been identified as upregulated in several types of cancer, including breast and gastric cancers, and is associated with poor prognosis in these contexts[2][4]. Functional studies indicate that LINC02086 promotes oncogenic phenotypes by enhancing cell viability, proliferation, and migration, while inhibiting apoptosis. Mechanistically, in breast cancer, LINC02086 acts as a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) that sponges miR-6757-5p, thereby upregulating the expression of ephrin type-A receptor 2 (EPHA2), which contributes to increased tumor cell survival and decreased cell death[2]. In gastric cancer, LINC02086 also promotes cell proliferation and migration, associated with changes in epithelial and mesenchymal marker expression and cell cycle progression[4]. The upregulation of LINC02086 is under study as a potential diagnostic and prognostic biomarker in multiple cancers; however, it is not a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, and there are no known drugs directly targeting LINC02086 as of the current scientific literature[2][4].
