Overview
Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 2147 (LINC02147) is a cytoplasmic long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA) located at 5q23.1, with established roles in the regulation of cell proliferation and malignant transformation in oral tissues. It is sequentially downregulated in normal oral mucosa, oral submucous fibrosis (OSF), and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), and its low expression correlates with increased cell proliferation and poor prognosis in OSCC. Functional studies indicate that LINC02147 acts mainly by negatively regulating processes associated with cell cycle progression and the MCM pathway. LINC02147 serves as a potential biomarker for diagnosis and prognosis in OSCC but is not a canonical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter. No therapeutic drugs currently target this lincRNA, and there are no known safety or efficacy concerns directly associated with its manipulation to date.
