Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 2166 (LINC02166) is a non-coding RNA longer than 200 nucleotides, located in the intergenic regions of the human genome. LINC02166 does not code for a protein but may regulate the expression of nearby or distant genes through various mechanisms such as changes in chromatin state and transcriptional control. By acting as a scaffold for regulatory proteins or as a molecular sponge for miRNAs, lincRNAs including LINC02166 may fine-tune gene expression in a tissue-specific manner. One study identified LINC02166 as part of a computational signature associated with a form of cell death called disulfidptosis, which may have implications for cancer biology. The core function of LINC02166, like most lincRNAs, is in gene regulation, often serving enhancer-like roles, but experimental validation of its biological and disease relevance remains limited. There is no evidence for direct targeting by small molecules, antibodies, or other conventional therapeutics, nor for use as a biomarker or therapeutic agent. The clinical relevance is mostly computational or predicted based on RNA signatures; functional studies are needed.
