Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 2220 (LINC02220) is a non-coding RNA gene located in the human genome, not translated into protein and classified within the lincRNA family. LINC02220 is expressed in human sperm and is upregulated in male infertility conditions characterized by reduced or abnormal sperm motility and morphology, such as asthenozoospermia and terato-asthenozoospermia. Its elevated expression is associated with downregulation of DNAH5, a gene essential for proper flagellum function and sperm movement. LINC02220 functions as an epigenetic regulator, most likely modulating gene expression at the transcriptional or chromatin level, and is considered a molecular factor rather than a direct therapeutic target
