Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 2236 (LINC02236) is a transcript of the human genome that belongs to the class of long intergenic non-coding RNAs (lincRNAs)[1][5]. These RNAs, defined as being longer than 200 nucleotides and not overlapping protein-coding genes, are autonomously transcribed and participate in the regulation of gene expression, chromatin architecture, and may act as enhancers, scaffolds, or decoys in cellular processes[1][5]. Although thousands of lincRNAs have been annotated, most—including LINC02236—remain poorly characterized functionally. In general, lincRNAs display tissue specificity and may fine-tune regulatory networks in development and disease, but there is currently limited specific evidence regarding the roles or disease associations of LINC02236[1][5].

Mechanism of action

None. There are no drugs acting via this target; however, lincRNAs can influence gene expression through chromatin modification, enhancer function, and RNA-protein interactions

Biological functions

Chromatin remodelingGenome architecture modulationRNA stabilizationTranscriptional regulation (both enhancer-like and gene regulatory activity are known for the lincRNA family; specific functions for LINC02236 remain uncharacterized)
04

Disease associations

Other (No well-established disease association for LINC02236. However, some lincRNAs are implicated in cancer, immune regulation, and cell cycle control; these roles are general for the lincRNA class)
05

Safety considerations

None specific. As lincRNAs, cautious interpretation is needed in therapeutic applications due to tissue specificity, pleiotropy, and unclear systemic effects
