Overview

LINC02249 (Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 2249) is a human long noncoding RNA located on chromosome 15 (15q13.2). It is not translated into protein but has regulatory roles in cancer biology, especially in skin cutaneous melanoma (SKCM), where its expression is unusually high compared to healthy tissue. High expression is linked to poor prognosis and reduced survival in affected patients. Functional analyses indicate LINC02249 may modulate cell cycle progression, microtubule dynamics, and tumor immune microenvironment, possibly acting as an oncogenic lncRNA in melanoma and other cancers. LINC02249 is negatively associated with infiltration by certain immune cells, suggesting a role in immune evasion or immunosuppression in tumors. It is primarily used as a biomarker for prognosis and risk stratification, not as a direct drug target, with further validation needed to elucidate its mechanisms and broader therapeutic implications[1][4][5].

Biomarkers

High expression of LINC02249 serves as prognostic biomarker for skin cutaneous melanoma (SKCM), indicating poor overall and disease-specific survival.Correlates with degree of immune cell infiltration, especially decreased infiltration of dendritic cells, Treg cells, and macrophages in melanoma
