Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 2299 (LINC02299) is a human long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) gene classified as a long intergenic noncoding RNA (lincRNA), located at chromosome 14q32. Like other lincRNAs, LINC02299 does not code for a protein but functions through RNA-mediated regulation. The general functions of lincRNAs include chromatin remodeling by recruiting chromatin-modifying enzymes, modulating gene expression, serving as molecular scaffolds, regulating RNA splicing, influencing mRNA translation, and acting as “sponges” for microRNAs—thereby altering cell signaling and gene expression. Dysregulation of lincRNAs is linked with disruption of signaling pathways, abnormal cell proliferation, and restriction of cell death, all relevant to oncogenesis; however, LINC02299 has not yet been specifically characterized or validated as a therapeutic target or biomarker in any clinical context. Thus, while LINC02299 shares the regulatory potential typical for lincRNAs, direct evidence of its disease involvement or targeting by drugs is not currently established.
