Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 2470 (LINC02470) is a long non-coding RNA highly upregulated in bladder cancer and associated with poor patient prognosis. At the molecular level, LINC02470 acts as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), sponging microRNA-143-3p and thereby preventing degradation of SMAD3 mRNA. This leads to increased SMAD3 expression and activation of the TGF-β-induced epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), promoting cancer cell viability, migration, invasion, and tumorigenicity. LINC02470 is considered a promising biomarker and therapeutic target candidate in bladder cancer, but no drugs currently target it directly, and its safety profile as a therapeutic target is unknown. Alternate transcript ID AC091814.2 is an alias used interchangeably. Given its role in EMT, LINC02470 may be involved in broader cancer biology beyond bladder cancer, but most evidence is currently limited to this malignancy.
