Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 2572 (LINC02572)

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 2572 (LINC02572) is a non-coding RNA locus producing long intergenic non-coding transcripts. LINC02572 is autonomously transcribed and does not encode a protein, nor does it overlap any annotated protein-coding gene. Members of the lincRNA family generally modulate gene expression at multiple levels, including chromatin configuration, RNA stability, and transcription regulation, and may possess enhancer-like functions. LINC02572 itself is one of many lincRNAs whose specific function remains to be elucidated, but lincRNAs as a class are increasingly recognized for their roles in fine-tuning cellular gene regulation, development, and disease, especially cancer. There is currently no evidence that LINC02572 is directly targeted by therapeutic drugs or used as a clinical biomarker.
