Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 2615 (LINC02615) is a human lncRNA, meaning it is a long RNA transcript not translated into protein, located between protein-coding genes on the genome[1][3]. LINC02615 has been identified primarily in breast tissue, where its expression is significantly downregulated in breast cancer samples relative to healthy controls, especially among obese patients and those with altered estrogen receptor (ER) expression[2][4]. Bioinformatics and experimental data suggest LINC02615 participates in regulating key cancer pathways including chromosomal instability, apoptosis, cell cycle progression, and proliferation by interacting with specific microRNAs (notably hsa-miR-129-5p and others)[2]. Currently, it has not been pursued as a direct therapeutic target or for drug development. Instead, its decreased expression is proposed as a novel diagnostic and prognostic biomarker, particularly for identifying breast cancer with certain clinicopathological features[2][4]. No drugs are known to act upon this RNA directly, and its role in other diseases is speculative, pending further research.
