Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 2620 (LINC02620), also known as Breast cancer-related transcript 1 (BCRT1), is a human long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) located on chromosome 10q25.1 and is approximately 1,013 nucleotides in length[1]. LINC02620 is non-coding, lacking protein-coding potential and a valid Kozak consensus sequence[1]. LINC02620 is significantly upregulated in breast cancer tissues compared with normal tissue and correlates with poor prognosis[1]. Functional studies show that BCRT1 promotes cell proliferation, survival, migration, invasion, and metastasis in multiple cancer types, including breast and cervical cancer[1][2][3]. Mechanistically, LINC02620 functions as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), sponging microRNAs such as miR-1303 (in breast cancer) and miR-432-5p (in cervical cancer), which regulate targets like PTBP3 and CCR7, thereby promoting tumor progression[1][2]. BCRT1 is also implicated in modulating macrophage polarization (promoting the tumor-associated M2 phenotype) and mediating hypoxia-induced EMT in tumor cells[1]. Its overexpression is a potential prognostic biomarker and may represent a novel therapeutic target in breast and potentially other cancers[1][2][3]. No drugs are currently approved or known to target LINC02620 directly, and its targeting in therapy would need to address concerns related to its broad involvement in cancer cell biology.
