Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 269 (LINC00269) is a long non-coding RNA (lincRNA) gene located on the X chromosome (chrX:69179555-69210496, GRCh38), transcribed from the positive strand and not encoding a functional protein[1][5][7]. LINC00269 has several aliases including CXorf62, NCRNA00269, and FLJ33610. Although direct functional studies on LINC00269 are limited, recent systems biology and bioinformatics analyses implicate its involvement in regulating gene expression networks related to apoptosis and immune responses, notably in neurodegenerative settings[4]. Specifically, LINC00269 expression correlates with genes implicated in pyroptosis (an inflammatory form of programmed cell death), such as GSDMD, CASP9, AIM2, and PYCARD[2][4]. The RNA has also been observed as a candidate biomarker for Parkinson’s disease due to altered expression in affected patient tissues[2][4]. There are preliminary suggestions of its involvement in cancer biology, possibly by modulating cell migration and invasion via ceRNA (competing endogenous RNA) networks, although these findings are largely extrapolated from the study of similar lincRNAs and require direct validation[3]. LINC00269 does not represent a direct therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or classical protein-coding disease gene, and there are no drugs described that specifically target it. Thus, its current recognized role is primarily as a potential biomarker and as a participant in gene regulatory networks rather than as a direct pharmacological target[2][4][5].
