Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 2690 (abbreviated as LINC02690) is a member of the long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA) family, comprised of autonomously transcribed RNA molecules greater than 200 nucleotides in length that do not overlap recognized protein-coding genes. Like other lincRNAs, LINC02690 is categorized as a non-coding RNA, meaning it is not translated into a functional protein. LincRNAs, broadly, are believed to contribute to the regulation of gene expression through diverse mechanisms, such as chromatin remodeling, regulation of transcription in cis or trans, RNA stabilization, and potentially acting as enhancer RNAs. Although many lincRNAs have tissue-specific expression patterns and have been implicated in modulating biological pathways and disease, there is currently no functional or clinical evidence available specifically for LINC02690 indicating it acts as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or is associated with disease states. Therefore, LINC02690 is classified molecularly as a lincRNA, but not as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other traditional drug target class.
