Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 276 (LINC00276) is a functional long non-coding RNA gene (lncRNA) found in humans, annotated on chromosome 2. It does not code for a traditional protein but plays key regulatory roles at the RNA level. LINC00276 is implicated in the regulation of hundreds of protein-coding genes, particularly in cancer-related pathways such as MAPK and Wnt signaling[2][8]. Its biological activities include protein binding, regulation of cell differentiation, and modulation of gene expression. In retinal pigment epithelial cells, LINC00276 is critical for differentiation and may help maintain cellular identity[6][8]. It has been identified as a prognostic biomarker in colorectal cancer, is involved in metastasis in breast cancer, and is a potential marker for age-related macular degeneration progression[2][6][8]. Emerging evidence suggests that LINC00276 may encode micropeptides via small open reading frames (sORFs), revealing additional regulatory potential at the protein level, although these functions require further research[4]. No direct small-molecule drugs or inhibitors are documented to target LINC00276, and its mechanisms of action are largely through regulation of gene/protein networks and RNA interactions.
