Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 28 (LINC00028) is a human long non-coding RNA located on chromosome 20, designated by multiple aliases including C20orf93, NCRNA00028, and dJ1093G12.6[3][5][7][8]. LINC00028 does not encode a protein; rather, it regulates gene expression at the RNA level, primarily functioning as a molecular sponge for microRNAs such as miR-204-5p[1]. Its upregulation has been associated with enhanced proliferation, migration, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, fibrosis, and autophagy in human tenon capsule fibroblasts, particularly after stimulation with TGFβ1 in the context of glaucoma filtration surgery scar formation[1]. Because of this regulation, LINC00028 is being explored as a potential biomarker for fibrotic complications in glaucoma but is not considered a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter[1][3][9]. No current drugs, small molecule inhibitors, or established mechanisms of action are known to target LINC00028 directly.
