Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 2870 (LINC02870) is a non-coding RNA gene located on human chromosome 10 (C10orf91) that encodes a small protein, ERSP. LINC02870/ERSP is highly expressed in triple-negative breast cancer tissues, contributing to cancer progression by inducing ER stress and activating the IRE1α/XBP1s branch of the unfolded protein response, promoting nuclear accumulation of XBP1s and expression of stress-response genes. Elevated levels of LINC02870 or ERSP are associated with poor cancer prognosis, making them potential therapeutic targets and biomarkers. LINC02870 joins the growing list of lncRNAs and lincRNAs shown to encode functional peptides/proteins with roles in gene regulation and disease context.
