Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 2879 (LINC02879) is a long non-coding RNA gene located on human chromosome 18 (chr18:26,735,945-26,754,735, hg19). It does not encode a protein and is classified as an intergenic transcript, meaning it is located between protein-coding genes and does not overlap them. LINC02879 is annotated in nucleotide databases and can be found in transcriptome studies; for example, it was detected as one of the most highly expressed multi-exon isoforms in samples with mutant U2AF1 (an RNA splicing factor) in lung adenocarcinoma, but its functional role remains uncertain. There are chromatin marks (H3K27 acetylation, H3K4 methylation) supporting its transcription as an independent locus. As with other lincRNAs, it may regulate gene expression or have tissue-specific regulatory functions, but no specific biological or disease function has been reported for LINC02879 to date.
