Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 293 (LINC00293) is a human long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene found on chromosome 8, officially named and cataloged by the HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee[1][7]. It does not code for a protein and is involved in regulatory roles at the RNA level. Studies indicate that LINC00293 is implicated in several disease processes: it is upregulated in serum from patients with secondary and primary progressive multiple sclerosis, enriched in exosomes from endometriotic lesions, associated with spermatogonial stem cell development, used in predictive models for breast cancer relapse, and its downregulation (due to hepatitis B virus integration) correlates with poor prognosis in hepatocellular carcinoma[3]. LINC00293 is therefore of biomedical interest for its possible role as a biomarker and as a putative therapeutic target under investigation but is not currently a conventional drug target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter[3].
