Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 294 (LINC00294) is a human long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) located on chromosome 11, and is also referred to as NCRNA00294[3][5][7]. LINC00294 has been identified as a molecular regulator in several cancers, including glioma and cervical cancer[2][4][6]. In glioma, LINC00294 is generally downregulated compared to normal brain tissue, and its expression influences mitochondrial function and apoptosis by acting as a competing endogenous RNA to miR-21-5p and miR-1278, thereby modulating targets such as CASKIN1 and NEFM, as well as pathways such as cAMP signaling[2][6]. In cervical cancer, LINC00294 is induced by GRP78 and promotes cell proliferation by regulating the cell cycle through the Hedgehog signaling pathway[4]. Aberrant expression of LINC00294 is linked to cancer progression, suggesting possible use as a biomarker for diagnosis, prognosis, and targeted therapy, although it is not established as a direct therapeutic target and no drugs are currently known to act on it[2][4][6].
