Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 2940 (LINC02940), also known as CCMAlnc (colorectal cancer metastasis-associated lncRNA), is a long non-coding RNA that is upregulated in colorectal cancer tissues compared to normal tissue, with expression levels further increased in metastatic colorectal cancers. CCMAlnc promotes colorectal cancer malignancy by acting as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) that stabilizes the expression of HES6 through downregulation of miR-5001-5p. Functional studies have shown that downregulation of CCMAlnc suppresses colorectal cancer cell proliferation and invasion, while overexpression enhances these malignant properties. Elevated expression of CCMAlnc is associated with poor prognosis in colorectal cancer patients, suggesting its utility as a biomarker and its potential as a therapeutic target in colorectal cancer metastasis[1][3].
