Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 299 (LINC00299) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene located on human chromosome 2. Unlike protein-coding genes, it serves regulatory functions at the RNA level, influencing diverse biological processes such as gene expression regulation and cellular stress responses. Research indicates that LINC00299 is implicated in several disease processes: it regulates vascular smooth muscle cell injury and migration through modulation of the miR-135a-5p/XBP1 axis in atherosclerosis, and its expression and methylation status may play a role in the development or progression of certain types of breast cancer, notably triple-negative breast cancer, possibly via the unfolded protein response pathway. LINC00299 is also associated with some rare genetic disorders. It is not a classical therapeutic drug target such as a receptor or enzyme, but it is being increasingly studied as a regulator and potential biomarker in cancer and immune cell biology[1][2][4][5][9].
