Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 310 (LINC00310) is a long non-coding RNA molecule encoded by the human LINC00310 gene, also known as C21orf82 or NCRNA00310, located on chromosome 21. Functionally, LINC00310 acts as a regulatory RNA, promoting breast cancer cell proliferation and tumor growth, primarily by regulating classical oncogenes such as c-Myc and cell cycle regulators like CDK4. Knockout of LINC00310 suppresses tumor growth both in vitro and in vivo, indicating a proto-oncogenic role. Elevated LINC00310 expression is associated with breast cancer progression and reduced patient survival; its increased levels in serum can serve as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for breast cancer, with high specificity and sensitivity for distinguishing disease state. Although not considered a classical drug target, it is of significant interest as a clinical marker and molecular modulator in oncology research. No antagonists or modulators targeting this RNA are in clinical use.
