Target intelligence / Profile preview
Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 3103 (LINC03103) is a human long non-coding RNA gene. It is also referred to as THEG5 (testis highly expressed protein 5), but does not encode a known functional protein. The gene shows highly restricted expression in the testis, suggesting a role in testis-specific biology, but to date, there is no published information documenting a direct biological function, mechanism in disease, or tractability as a therapeutic target. LINC03103 is not currently linked to any known drugs, therapeutic interventions, or biomarker utilities. Given the absence of characterized function, established disease roles, or therapeutic modalities, its biomedical relevance remains to be elucidated. Some confusion exists in the literature due to the shared alias “THEG5, testis highly expressed protein 5.” However, no credible evidence associates the gene product with any characterized protein or receptor function—it is a non-coding RNA locus. It should not be conflated with “testis-specific GTPase” or “testis-specific Y-encoded protein-like protein 5,” which are unrelated and encode proteins. All available databases (GeneCards, NCBI, Open Targets, Monarch Initiative) agree this is a non-protein-coding RNA gene.
