LINC00311 is a human long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA), which means it is a transcribed RNA molecule longer than 200 nucleotides that does not encode a functional protein and whose gene locus does not overlap any known coding gene. Like other lincRNAs, LINC00311 is involved in complex regulation of gene expression, including chromatin remodeling, transcriptional regulation, and acting as a molecular sponge for microRNAs, thus influencing the amount of microRNA available to regulate target mRNAs. Abnormal expression of lincRNAs including LINC00311 has been implicated in the dysregulation of cellular pathways, contributing to oncogenesis and other disease mechanisms. LINC00311 and similar lincRNAs are mainly studied as regulators and biomarkers rather than classical therapeutic targets, and they do not encode functional proteins or act as receptors, enzymes, or transporters.
