Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 336 (LINC00336) is a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) primarily localized in the nucleus and upregulated in various cancers, especially non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)[2][4][6]. LINC00336 acts as an oncogene, facilitating tumor cell proliferation, inhibiting ferroptosis (an iron-dependent, apoptosis-independent form of cell death), and promoting tumor growth[2][4][6]. It functions as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), sequestering microRNA miR-6852 and regulating the expression of cystathionine-β-synthase (CBS), a marker involved in ferroptosis[2][4][6]. LINC00336 interacts with the RNA-binding protein ELAVL1, which stabilizes its expression, and its expression correlates with poor prognosis in lung cancer patients, making it a potential biomarker for NSCLC prognosis[2]. Currently, LINC00336 is not a direct therapeutic target or the subject of any approved pharmacological interventions, but its pathogenic role in cancer suggests a possible future as a therapeutic biomolecule[2][4][6].
