Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 404 (LINC00404) is a non-coding RNA transcript located in an intergenic region of the human genome that does not encode a protein. As a long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA), it belongs to a class of RNAs longer than 200 nucleotides which play regulatory roles in gene expression, often by influencing chromatin structure, modulating transcriptional regulation, or affecting RNA stability and processing. LINC00404 itself, like many lincRNAs, has yet to be fully characterized, and there is currently no evidence that it is a therapeutic target or that it directly interacts with drugs or serves as a disease biomarker. LINC00404 is listed as a long intergenic non-coding RNA in genomic databases such as GeneCards and BioGPS, with no known protein-coding function. LincRNAs, in general, are distinguished from other lncRNAs by their location in intergenic regions; their primary characterized roles involve regulation of gene expression, acting either locally or at a distance within the genome through complex mechanisms such as chromatin remodeling or RNA-DNA interactions. There is no strong evidence in the current literature for LINC00404 as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other canonical therapeutic target molecule. The biological functions of lincRNAs often include gene regulation, chromatin remodeling, and modulation of cell-specific processes, but the specific roles of LINC00404 remain unclear due to the lack of direct functional studies. No known aliases beyond LINC00404 are reported in the available databases. There is little or no specific data regarding LINC00404's role in disease, involvement in cellular pathways, or interactions with drugs. Its function may yet be discovered as genome-wide studies and characterization of lincRNAs expand, but currently, it is neither a therapeutic target nor a validated biomarker.
