Target intelligence / Profile preview
LINC00459 is a long intergenic non-coding RNA located on chromosome 13q21.31 that functions in cancer biology primarily by acting as a competing endogenous RNA for miR-218. By sequestering miR-218, LINC00459 increases DKK3 expression, which inhibits cell proliferation, promotes apoptosis, and reduces the invasive capacity of melanoma cells. Decreased expression of LINC00459 correlates with poor patient outcomes, and upregulation in cellular models slows tumor growth and metastasis, suggesting value as both a biomarker and a therapeutic target.
LINC00459 acts as a ceRNA, binding and sequestering miR-218, which in turn increases expression of the dickkopf-related protein 3 (DKK3), leading to anti-proliferative effects against melanoma cells
