Target intelligence / Profile preview
Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 466 (LINC00466) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) that does not encode a protein but instead regulates the expression of other genes through post-transcriptional mechanisms. Most notably, LINC00466 acts as a molecular sponge for specific microRNAs, such as miR-493 and miR-137, affecting the availability and regulatory effects of these microRNAs on their mRNA targets. LINC00466 is upregulated in various tumors, such as glioma, tongue squamous cell carcinoma, and lung adenocarcinoma, where it promotes cancer cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and resistance to apoptosis—partly by upregulating oncogenic proteins (such as HMGA2 and PPP1R14B) by sequestering their regulatory microRNAs. Elevated LINC00466 expression has been associated with poor prognosis in some cancer types and may potentially serve as a biomarker or a component of targeted cancer therapy, though it is not a direct molecular drug target in the sense of classical receptors, enzymes, or transporters[1][2][3][4].
Competes for binding to microRNAs (ceRNA mechanism, acting as a molecular sponge); indirectly regulates gene and protein expression downstream of sponged miRNAs (e.g., HMGA2 via miR-493[1], PPP1R14B via miR-137[2])
