Overview

LINC00467 (long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 467) is a long non-coding RNA originally categorized as non-protein coding but recently identified to encode a 94-amino acid micropeptide named ATP synthase–associated peptide (ASAP)[1][3]. LINC00467 and its encoded ASAP peptide are predominantly localized in the mitochondria where ASAP interacts with ATP synthase subunits (ATP5A and ATP5C), enhancing ATP synthase assembly, activity, and mitochondrial ATP production, thus promoting cellular energy metabolism and cell proliferation[1][3]. LINC00467 also functions at the RNA level as a competing endogenous RNA, sequestering microRNAs that regulate gene expression related to tumorigenesis[2][4]. Elevated expression of LINC00467 and ASAP is associated with poor prognosis and increased tumor progression in colorectal cancer, lung adenocarcinoma, and gastric cancer[1][2][4]. These roles suggest LINC00467/ASAP as a candidate therapeutic target and prognostic biomarker in multiple cancers, although direct pharmacological agents targeting this molecule have not been described.
