Target intelligence / Profile preview
Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 485 (LINC00485) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) that does not encode a protein. It plays varied regulatory roles in human disease, particularly in cancer. LINC00485 is implicated in colorectal cancer as a tumor suppressor, inhibiting cell proliferation, migration, and invasion by acting through the miR-581/EDEM1 axis[1][4][5]. In colorectal cancer, lower expression of this lncRNA is associated with poor prognosis and greater aggressiveness[1][4]. In contrast, LINC00485 is upregulated in hepatocellular carcinoma and acts as an oncogene by sponging microRNAs such as miR-214-3p, miR-195-5p, and miR-298, influencing tumor progression and serving as a diagnostic and prognostic serum biomarker[2][3]. LINC00485 may also promote lung cancer progression via the miR-298/c-Myc axis[3]. The function of LINC00485 is mainly through competing endogenous RNA mechanisms, in which it binds and sequesters various microRNAs, thereby regulating the expression of downstream target genes involved in cell growth and cancer development[2][4][6]. It is under active investigation as a molecular marker for cancer diagnosis and prognosis, but there is currently no evidence of direct small molecule or biologic drugs targeting this lncRNA.
Acts as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) or molecular sponge, regulating target mRNA expression by sponging microRNAs such as miR-581, miR-195, or miR-298[1][2][3][4].
