Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 508 (LINC00508) is a human long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene located in intergenic regions of the genome, meaning it does not encode a protein. It belongs to the class of long intergenic non-protein coding RNAs (lincRNAs), which are a subclass of lncRNAs transcribed from regions outside of annotated protein-coding genes. LincRNAs such as LINC00508 typically function in regulation of gene expression, often by interacting with chromatin-modifying complexes or by acting as ‘molecular sponges’ for microRNAs, thus influencing other cellular transcripts. While aberrant expression of related lincRNAs has been implicated in various diseases, including several cancers, there is currently little or no published evidence for a direct mechanistic or therapeutic role for LINC00508 in any specific disease or as a therapeutic target
