Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 528 (LINC00528) is a human long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene mapped to chromosome 22 (formerly C22orf37), not coding for a protein product[1][9]. LINC00528 is primarily localized in the cytoplasm and functions as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), notably sponging miR-143-3p, and by this mechanism, modulates the expression of COX-2 and influences apoptosis and proliferation of myocardial and cancer cells[2][4][6]. LINC00528 has been shown to be upregulated in myocardial infarction and certain cancers (e.g., laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma, HER2-positive breast cancer) and its expression is associated with patient prognosis[2][6]. It is not a traditional receptor, enzyme, transporter, or known direct drug target; its therapeutic potential is as a regulatory RNA implicated in disease progression. There are no validated direct small-molecule inhibitors or drugs against LINC00528, but correlations to drug sensitivity exist from computational approaches[6].
