Overview
Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 534 (LINC00534) is a human long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), meaning it is a functional RNA molecule longer than 200 nucleotides that is not translated into protein. LINC00534 has been shown to be upregulated in breast cancer and acts as a molecular sponge for specific microRNAs, especially miR-139-5p, promoting cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, and contributing to tumor progression and metastasis. In trophoblast cells, LINC00534 inhibits cell proliferation and migration while promoting apoptosis, likely through a miRNA-mediated mechanism involving PTEN and the PI3K/AKT pathway, with implications for placental development and preeclampsia. LINC00534 may thus serve as a prognostic biomarker and a putative therapeutic target in various diseases, though no drugs or therapeutic interventions currently target it directly.
