Overview
Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 538 (LINC00538), also known as Yiya or PROX1 upstream transcript, is a long non-coding RNA gene located upstream of the transcription factor PROX1. LINC00538 does not encode a protein but is implicated in the regulation of gene expression, possibly affecting cell fate and development. It has been found to promote papillary thyroid cancer progression by modulating the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process and is considered an oncogenic long non-coding RNA in several cancer types[2][3]. LINC00538 may play a role in cell cycle progression and cell proliferation, with evidence also suggesting involvement in neurological disease contexts such as focal epilepsy[6]. Its precise mechanisms of action and therapeutic relevance are still under investigation, and there are currently no known drugs that directly target this lincRNA.
