Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 578 (LINC00578) is a long non-coding RNA shown to be upregulated in pancreatic cancer tissues and serum. It is associated with poor prognosis and advanced tumor stages. LINC00578 acts as an oncogene, facilitating pancreatic cancer cell proliferation and invasion both in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, LINC00578 inhibits ferroptosis by directly interacting with the ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme UBE2K and preventing the ubiquitination (and subsequent degradation) of SLC7A11, leading to SLC7A11 upregulation and enhanced cell survival. Its expression level is correlated with clinical features, and silencing LINC00578 suppresses proliferation of pancreatic cancer cells. LINC00578 is currently explored as a potential biomarker for pancreatic cancer diagnosis and prognosis, but it is not recognized as a traditional therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter[1][3][5].
