Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 616 (LINC00616) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), specifically classified as a long intergenic non-coding RNA, meaning it does not code for a protein and is transcribed from a genomic region that does not overlap with known protein-coding genes[1][3][5]. LINC00616 has been shown to regulate cellular processes via mechanisms such as sponging microRNAs (notably, acting as a competitive endogenous RNA), and it has a described role in promoting ferroptosis in periodontal ligament stem cells through the microRNA-370/transferrin receptor axis[3]. As with many lincRNAs, it is thought to participate in the regulation of gene expression and cellular homeostasis, and abnormal expression or function of LINC00616 may be associated with disease, particularly in the context of cancer and other cell-proliferation-related diseases[5]. However, there are currently no approved drugs directly targeting this molecule, nor is it classified as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or typical therapeutic target[3][5].
