Target intelligence / Profile preview
Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 659 (LINC00659) is a long non-coding RNA categorized as a long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA); it does not code for a protein and is primarily involved in transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. LINC00659 is upregulated in several cancers, particularly gastric and colon cancer, where it is associated with cancer progression, metastasis, and poor prognosis. Mechanistically, LINC00659 may serve as a competing endogenous RNA by binding and sequestering tumor-suppressive microRNAs such as miR-370, thus facilitating the expression of pro-tumorigenic genes including AQP3, and it can regulate pathways such as PI3K-AKT to influence proliferation and apoptosis. Its expression has also been linked to epithelial-mesenchymal transition, cell migration, and invasion in cancer cells. LINC00659 is being explored as a prognostic biomarker and a potential therapeutic target in oncology.
Functions as a miRNA sponge (ceRNA), for example sponging miR-370 in gastric cancer, leading to upregulation of downstream genes such as AQP3. Modulates PI3K-AKT signaling pathway in colon cancer cells.
