Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 671 (LINC00671) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) encoded on chromosome 17, spanning approximately 40 kb[3][5]. It does not code for protein but exerts its regulatory functions through a range of mechanisms, including acting as a molecular sponge for microRNAs and regulating downstream genes. LINC00671 has been shown to be downregulated in several human cancers, including renal cell carcinoma, papillary thyroid cancer, gastric cancer, and pancreatic cancer[2][4][6]. Functionally, LINC00671 acts as a tumor suppressor, where its loss is associated with poor prognosis, increased cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and EMT processes in tumors. Its mechanism involves sponging miR-221-5p, thereby upregulating SOCS1 in renal cell carcinoma[2], and regulating the STAT3/LINC00671/LDHA axis to control glycolysis and tumor progression in papillary thyroid cancer[1][6]. LINC00671 is primarily located in the cytoplasm, fitting its ceRNA function[2][4]. Its expression correlates with improved clinical outcomes across several cancer types, suggesting utility as a novel biomarker and potential therapeutic target, although direct drug interactions or therapeutics targeting LINC00671 have not yet been reported.
