Overview
Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 850 (LINC00850) is a human long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA) gene. LincRNAs are a subgroup of long non-coding RNAs defined by their length (>200 nucleotides) and their genomic location in regions that do not overlap any protein-coding genes. Many lincRNAs, including LINC00850, are poorly characterized and their specific molecular functions remain unknown. Generally, lincRNAs can act as regulators of gene expression, influence chromatin states, and participate in fine-tuning transcription; however, individual functions are largely gene- and context-dependent. LINC00850 is referenced in genomic studies of cancer, but there is no current evidence that it serves as a therapeutic target, interacts with drugs, or acts as a clinical biomarker.
