Target intelligence / Profile preview
Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 861 (LINC00861) is a long non-coding RNA found in humans, transcribed but not translated into protein, and located on chromosome 8[5][7][8]. LINC00861 plays a functional role as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), modulating gene expression by sponging specific microRNAs such as miR-513b-5p[2]. This activity regulates critical cellular pathways including the PTEN/AKT/mTOR axis and affects processes such as cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)[2]. LINC00861 has demonstrated tumor-suppressive properties in certain cancers, with low expression linked to more aggressive disease and worse prognosis, while high expression within immune cells of lung tumors has been associated with improved patient outcomes and stronger cytotoxic immune activity[2][4]. At present, LINC00861 is not classified as a direct therapeutic target (e.g., receptor, enzyme) and no drugs are known to interact with it directly, but it may serve as a promising prognostic biomarker for patient stratification in oncology[2][4][8].
