Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 862 (LINC00862)

Target
LINC00862
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Other (putative small integral membrane protein)
01

Overview

LINC00862 is a long non-coding RNA located at chromosome 1q32.1, alternatively annotated as the gene encoding a putative small integral membrane protein (SMIM16)[1][7]. It is highly and variably expressed in many cancers and stromal cells and functions as a competing endogenous RNA that regulates gene expression, most notably by promoting SIRT1 expression through miR-29c-3p sequestration[2]. LINC00862 is related to a “hot” immune microenvironment in cancers, making it a valuable biomarker for immunotherapy efficacy. Its overexpression is driven by super-enhancer activity involving P300 acetyltransferase and BRD4 at the LINC00862 locus[2]. Current research supports its candidacy as a diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive biomarker in multiple tumor types, especially cervical and gastric cancers. While alternative annotations as SMIM16 suggest potential transmembrane protein-coding capability, prevailing evidence and clinical utility arise from its function as an lncRNA[1][2][7].
