Target intelligence / Profile preview
Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 922 (LINC00922) is a long non-coding RNA gene found on chromosome 16q21, composed of nine exons and approximately 1776 nucleotides. It is highly expressed in several cancer types, including gastric, breast, lung, ovarian, and hepatocellular cancers, and is implicated in promoting aggressive cancer phenotypes such as increased cell proliferation, migration, invasion, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, and reduced apoptosis[1][2][4]. Mechanistically, LINC00922 functions mainly in the cytoplasm as a competing endogenous RNA, "sponging" tumor-suppressive microRNAs (such as miR-424-5p and miR-361-3p), which leads to the upregulation of target oncogenes like BDNF and activation of signaling pathways such as Wnt. Downregulation of LINC00922 restricts cancer cell proliferation and metastasis, indicating its utility as a prognostic biomarker and a potential therapeutic target in multiple malignancies[1][2][4]. No direct interacting drugs have been reported, but it may be therapeutically targeted by interventions that decrease its expression or disrupt its miRNA interactions.
Mechanisms involve modulation of microRNAs (e.g., acting as a molecular sponge for miR-424-5p, miR-361-3p), regulation of target mRNA expression (such as BDNF and via the Wnt pathway through promoter methylation modulation)
