Overview

Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 924 (LINC00924) is a long non-coding RNA highly expressed in gastric cancer, particularly in cases with peritoneal metastasis. It exerts its oncogenic effects by inducing fatty acid metabolic reprogramming, promoting fatty acid oxidation and uptake, and thereby supporting the survival and growth of matrix-detached (metastatic) gastric cancer cells. Mechanistically, LINC00924 interacts with the RNA-binding protein hnRNPC to regulate the alternative splicing of Mnk2 pre-mRNA, influencing the p38 MAPK/PPARα pathway, which is implicated in cancer cell adaptation to detachment and metastatic spread. Elevated LINC00924 expression correlates with poor prognosis and immune infiltration patterns, and may serve as a biomarker for identifying high-risk patients and those less likely to benefit from immune checkpoint blockade therapies. Currently, it is considered an emerging therapeutic target and biomarker in oncology, specifically in gastric cancer.
